Dr. Bashir O. Attuwaybi became the seventh
physician in the Buffalo Medical Group Department of Colon and
Rectal Surgery on August 17, 2009.
He joined BMG after completing colorectal
surgery fellowship training at the University at Buffalo (UB) School
of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Attuwaybi earned his medical degree at the
University of Alfateh in Tripoli, Libya, and completed an internship
at Alfateh University affiliated hospitals. He also received surgery
training at Tripoli Central Hospital, and in 2008 completed a
five-year surgery residency at UB. In 2006, Dr. Attuwaybi received
the Theodore C. Jewett Jr., MD, Gold Star Resident of the year
Award.
The new BMG physician also has considerable
research experience including a two-year trauma research fellowship
at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston that was funded
by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Dr. Attuwaybi performs screening, diagnostic
and therapeutic colonscopies, and has a special interest in
laparoscopic colon and rectal surgery, surgery for ulcerative
colitis and Crohn's Disease, surgery for colon and rectal cancer,
surgical treatment of rectal prolapse, and anorectal physiology.
He has authored and co-authored numerous
articles and publications for medical journals, and has also
participated in medical conferences nationally and internationally.
