Dr. Philip T. Kuruvilla, who has served as Chief
of Service for the Kaleida Health Department of Rehabilitation
Medicine since 2003, joined Buffalo Medical Group, PC, in late
September. He and Mary C. Kauderer, MD, will comprise BMG's new
Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
As clinical administrator of Rehabilitation Medicine for the
region's largest health system, a position he will continue to hold,
Dr. Kuruvilla is responsible for overseeing Kaleida's 48 Acute
Medical Rehab beds at DeGraff Memorial and Buffalo General
hospitals. In addition, he participates in and coordinates inpatient
rehab medicine consultation services and outpatient care at four
hospitals in the health system.
Board Certified in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, Dr.
Kuruvilla is a graduate of Trivandrum Medical College, Kerala State,
India. He completed residency training in Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation at the State University of New York at Brooklyn,
where he served as Chief Resident from 1993-94.
Immediately prior to his current appointment at Kaleida Health, Dr.
Kuruvilla was Medical Director of the Medical Rehabilitation Unit at
DeGraff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda, NY, from 1996 - 2003.
He also has served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of
Rehabilitation Medicine at the University at Buffalo School of
Medicine and Biomedical Sciences since 1995.
He is a member of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation and the American Medical Association.
