The FDA and CDC Approve Criteria for Pfizer Vaccine Booster

By Jeffrey Johns | September 27 2021 | BMG News & Updates

The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) has authorized booster vaccines for individuals that completed the primary series of Pfizer Vaccine. The Moderna and Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) vaccine are not yet approved for booster doses.  At this time, it is not recommended that individuals mix vaccines, for the purpose of “boosting” their primary vaccine series.

The Pfizer Booster has been approved for the following groups at least 6 months after completion of their primary series.

  • individuals 65 years of age and older
  • individuals 18 through 64 years of age at high risk of severe COVID-19
  • individuals 18 through 64 years of age whose frequent institutional or occupational exposure to SARS-CoV-2 puts them at high risk of serious complications of COVID-19 including severe COVID-19.

You do not need to provide a medical letter or documentation from your medical provider; you will be asked to attest that you meet the booster criteria at the time of your vaccination.  You will also need to bring your vaccine card with you at the time of your vaccination.

We anticipate that local Clinics will be set up to help in the administration of the booster vaccine(s).   In the interim, many local pharmacies are administering the Pfizer vaccine and appointments can be scheduled with your local pharmacy.

Buffalo Medical Group will be updating their website as additional information becomes available.
